It’s early in the morning. Eric just left for work, and I only have about twenty minutes to squeeze some writing in. It’s like this every morning! I wake up early, thinking I can knock out a bunch of tasks before I have to wake up the kids, but the actual time feels so small when I’m in the middle of it. I’m sure you can relate!
Times like these, the only thing I can do is take each moment I’m given and do the best I can with it. It’s not possible to stretch time, but it is possible to be present and appreciate the moment for what it is. That’s the purpose of this new series: to grasp the present and hold on to the moment right in front of me for all it’s worth!
In this moment I am:
Hearing | The cat on my lap, and she is purring so loudly you wouldn’t believe it. She wants me to give her all of my attention, but I just need a little bit of elbow room! Willow is fourteen years old and spoiled three shades of rotten. She wants to type just as badly as she wants me to scratch her head, and her purring is loud enough to wake the neighborhood.
Tasting | Coffee with cream and sugar. I cut out caffeine for a solid two weeks recently, but I’m back on the full-strength joe. All it took was one sleepless night to get me hooked again! I’ve been drinking coffee every day since I was ten, so it feels unnatural to begin the day any other way.
Seeing | It’s still dark outside, but in only a few more minutes the sky will begin to turn grey, then blue, and finally pink and orange. The days are getting shorter, the sun is rising later, and the cold has finally started to set it. We’ve had to kick on the heat a few times over the last week, which means that fall is finally here! I didn’t think it’d ever arrive, but here we are.
Pondering | This photo and all the magic light:
This house has been our home for ten years. It’s not perfect, but it has been just right for us! And really, the morning light is amazing here. Besides that, we have 1100 square feet and two bedrooms sitting on a quarter acre of flat land. This neighborhood is on no one’s bucket list, but we’ve been happy here.
Lately, Eric and I both have been feeling the urge to move on. I’ve been thinking a lot about what tasks we might need to accomplish before we can list the house, and trying to decide which neighborhood we want to set our sights on. We’ve talked about moving out of state, and we’ve talked about moving one town over. We’ve talked about living on a farm versus living in the ‘burbs. We’ve talked a lot, but haven’t decided a single thing yet. Fortunately, I know that the decision is not totally up to us, and that gives me peace!
Looking forward to… | …the holiday season! It’s upon us! Can you believe it? After rejecting two costumes and returning them to Target, Seth finally settled on this Captain America costume for Halloween, and Hawk still wants to wear his too-small fox costume from last year. We have pumpkins sitting on the porch, ready to carve.
Next week, after the candy is digested, the countdown to Thanksgiving will finally begin! I can’t believe it. Thanksgiving is really my favorite of all the holidays, and sometimes I think it gets overlooked in favor of Christmas. I know some people that will be putting up their Christmas decorations next week! We wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving to hit up the tree farm. But I am planning to get the shopping knocked out first!
Now I want to know, when do you put up your Christmas tree? Leave me a comment letting me know!
