Our family celebrated ‘Merica all weekend, and Eric even took a long weekend off work. He needed the holiday break because he’s been working very late hours lately! Here’s some snapshots from our weekend:
Now that the fireworks have settled, it’s back to business. Eric is headed back to work, and the boys and I are starting a new school year soon! The public school kids around here have another five or six weeks before they start school, but I like to have the freedom to take breaks whenever the need arises.
Our school year can be spread out more over the year and we don’t have to be limited by things like minor holidays or even weekends! This year, I am sticking a little closer to the original Charlotte Mason method by dividing our year into three 12-week terms. After each term is completed, we will take a breather before beginning the next.
Also, since I will be having facial surgery next spring before I have my braces removed, I hope to finish up all our required studies beforehand so that I can use a longer break for my recovery. There will be several weeks that I will be on a liquid diet, and I’m assuming that reading aloud and teaching during that time will be too much stress on my jaw as well! Eek.
As we settle into a fresh school year, you can look forward to more posts about our homeschool lifestyle. I’d love to show you our second grade schedule and talk a little bit about the way we “do school”. I’ve been reading Charlotte Mason’s Original Homeschooling Series, and as I read more of her beautiful philosophy I want to share more of my thoughts about what I’ve read!
Even more so, I long to share with you all the ways that God is continuing to grow and nurture me as a mother, a friend, and a leader. He has been so present with me over the past few months, speaking truth into my heart in new ways, and gradually revealing more of His plan for me. I have praying for Him to activate words in me so that I can share more of Him with you along the way.
How did you celebrate Independence Day? What plans do you have for the remainder of summer? Leave me a comment below because I’d love to hear all about it!
