My biggest little boy turns seven today. For seven years, I’ve been a mother now, so you’d think I have it all figured out by now. I certainly don’t! But I can’t think of anything I’d rather be.
This child perplexes me. He challenges me at every turn. But he also makes me laugh, and sometimes he can be melt-your-heart sweet. Like when we took him to Build-A-Bear last night to get the stuffed Toothless he’s been coveting since last fall, and he got his change back from the cashier and immediately turned to Hawk and said, “Here, baby bro. You can have this dollar for yourself to spend however you like.” Heart. Explode!
He asked for apple pie instead of cake, so when our family came over to celebrate with us over the weekend, we had pie á la mode. For presents, he got Toothless and a membership to the local science museum, a trip to the hibachi grill and his first compound bow. Today, there will be chocolate cake and absolutely no school or chores whatsoever for my boy. Today, Seth is the prince! Happy birthday, little man. You make mama proud.
