This is the little cottage where we live. Eric and I bought this little fixer-upper right after we got married a little more than nine years ago. She’s fairly tiny and quite a bit old (eighty-eight years, to be precise), but this house is perfect for us right now.
Our little dollhouse sits on the edge of Birmingham, Alabama. We’ve both lived here our whole lives, and I don’t like to imagine us living anywhere else. I know there may be someday that we’re called out of this city, but Birmingham will always be home!
I wish I could say that we are adept at DIY home improvements or that we are chock full of ideas to share about fixing up older homes. Sadly, our house needs a lot of repairs and we’re too broke/tired/busy to address everything she requires, but I feel compelled to share the honest truth. Everyday, I have to make peace with imperfection and be grateful for the little bit that we do have.
One day soon, I’d love to show you around the inside. I’ll save that for later: hopefully on a day when I’ve been industrious enough to shovel the mess into the closet (haha). In the meantime, this quote:
Wasn’t that the gift of a home? You looked at it the same way, but then when you needed it to, it showed you all over again the many ways you’d been during the time you had been living there. The many ways it brought you back to yourself. The many ways it still brought you back to yourself. (Laura Dave)
